In FreeBSD 10 you will notice that every partition/slice is listed under /dev/diskid/ referencing vendor and a serial number of the physical disk. On my system I can see something like below:

DISK-WD-WCASJ1263250
DISK-WD-WCASJ1263250s1

This shows that there is Western Digital hard disk, with serial number WCASJ1263250, which has 1 partition with 1 slice (s1) on it. In old days we might have denote them as ad2 and ad2s1 respectively. If you are planning to use these new diskid(s) in fstab to mount relevant partitions/slices simply use below notation:

/dev/diskid/DISK-WD-WCASJ1263250s1 instead of /dev/ad2s1
